Hon. Robert G. Taylor, Judge Ret.

Current Position:

Retired Judge of the Riverside Superior Court. Founding partner of Desert ADR, dedicated to providing the finest alternative dispute resolution services to Southern California’s Inland Empire.

Judicial Background:

Judge Taylor retired in February, 2005, after serving 13 years on the Riverside Superior Court bench. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Taylor practiced 14 years in the field of general civil litigation. Judge Taylor is a past Presiding Judge of the Riverside Superior Court.

As an attorney, Judge Taylor practiced in the field of civil litigation for 14 years, handling most kinds of civil cases, including: business disputes; fraud; insurance bad faith; employment litigation; personal injury; wrongful death; eminent domain; CEQA litigation; and others.

This broad civil experience greatly assisted Judge Taylor as a Superior Court Judge, where he spent the majority of his time on a direct calendar civil assignment. In that capacity he was known for his diligence and work ethic and sense of fairness. During his 13 years on the bench, Judge Taylor tried hundreds of civil cases.

Notwithstanding his experience as a trial judge, Judge Taylor has always been dedicated to helping litigants and counsel resolve cases. He was sought after as a Settlement Conference judge throughout his judicial career, having developed a reputation for the ability to settle difficult and complex cases. Judge Taylor has presided over hundreds of settlements in the areas of products liability; medical malpractice; disputes between and among county and/or municipal entities; employment disputes; wrongful death; partnership and corporate disputes; complex probate and most other kinds of civil cases.

In one case Judge Taylor spent two weeks settling a 34-plaintiff personal injury case, thereby saving the parties and the court over 6 months of trial time. He has always approached case resolution with respect and courtesy for the parties. His personal approach, and his work ethic, combined with 28 years experience in the law (13 as a Superior Court Judge), makes Judge Taylor uniquely qualified as a mediator.

Since co-founding Desert ADR, Judge Taylor has acted as mediator, arbitrator, special master and/or discovery referee on over 400 cases.
