Thomas A. Grossman, Esq.

Current Position:

Owner/Manager/Mediator of Desert ADR, Alternative Dispute Resolution Service.

Background:

After eight years of being in a law partnership with Robert G. Taylor, I have operated a law practice in Rancho Mirage, California for over 20 years, practicing general civil law, with an emphasis on personal injury, business, contract law, and litigation. Since 1985, I have operated law offices for various attorneys at my current location. And, since 2005 I have operated and owned Desert ADR, the best known ADR service in the Coachella Valley, and serving the inland Empire and Southern California.

From admission to the California Bar in 1976, I handled a variety of civil cases, including:  business disputes; fraud; real estate; personal injury; wrongful death; and intellectual property.  I also taught Business Law for approximately 15 out of the last 20 years, mostly at College of the Desert for approximately 13 years, with a year teaching at Cal State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus, and Chapman College.  Throughout my legal career, I have acted as Judge Pro Tem for the Indio Superior Court, handling mediations and settlement conferences, and I have been an active member of the Desert Bar Association Fee Dispute Resolution Program for over 25 years.  I also wrote the Legal Opinion on the validity of Non-Refundable Fee Retainer Agreements, that is circulated to all parties involved in the Desert Bar Association Fee Dispute Resolution Program.

I graduated from U.C.L.A. with a Degree in English Literature in 1967, and graduated from Southwestern University School of Law in 1976, and became a member of the California Bar in the same year.   I am licensed to practice in all California Courts.   And, I have been a licensed California Real Estate Broker since 1977, and spent several years as a foreclosure specialist handling non-judicial foreclosures for Landmark Land Company, during which time I designed and utilized many of my own Real Estate Forms.

Organizations, Associations:

"Since its inception, I have three times been a member of the Warren E. Slaughter Chapter of the American Inns of Court;  I am a current member of the California Bar Assoc., Riverside County Bar Assoc., Desert Bar Assoc., and the Consumer Attorneys of California.

“In 2005 I attended week-long course on Mediations” at the Straus Institute (Pepperdine University Law School), and again in December of  2010 I attended a weekend course in “Mediating the Litigated Case” at the Straus Institute.

I have a lifetime teaching credential from the California Community College System; and I am a member of the California Teachers  Association.

Personal:

I hike, camp and swim regularly. I enjoy astronomy and animals. I regularly engage in salsa dancing and singing, and have contributed to the local Bar Association’s Annual “Bird Awards” show for many years.

I firmly believe that most disputes (including lawsuits) can be resolved through understanding, communication, and cooperation. Operating a dispute resolution service, and mediating cases, is much more satisfying to me than litigating cases, although I recognize that not all cases can be settled, and litigation is a necessary part of our modern society.

I am happy to be a part of the ADR solution to resolving conflict.
